Lately, my painting and modelling activity has been quite slow. Therefore, in order to get back into the swing of thing's, I focused on finishing a couple of tasks which have been on my list for a while now. Specifically, finishing a couple of fields made from corduroy material, and adding a dirty/dusty to some felt roads.

| After the sand colour dry brushing dabs of green are added around the edge and dabbed on some of the ridges to indicate some plants are growing to add variety. |

20 minutes of work improves their overall look and stops them looks as stark on the tabletop.
Those corduory fields look brilliant Peter. Next time I'm in town I think I may have to visit the large fabric shop we have...

It is also easy to store which is also a bonus as storage space is becoming an issue.

DeleteThose touches really bring them to life and blend them in with your cloth. Especially the roads as tarmac look quite pale when viewed from above (typical gamer's viewpoint) - just look at aerial photos to see how they stand out as pale lines running through the countryside.

ReplyDeleteWas the corduroy brown to start with? I’ve had some luck with it in the past but I had to spray paint mine brown and it got kinda stiff.
Is there a texture added to the felt road? Looks like it. Felt I’ve used in the past isn’t that bumpy so I didn’t think a dry brush would work so well.

The corduroy is brown material and so no pre-painting required. The felt is fairly textured to start with. There are different types of felt and some have more texture than others. I am not sure of the types, but I thing the ones with a higher wool content have more texture. I use a large 2 inch brush when applying the paint.
DeleteSure I already commented Peter but sometimes I have issues with my iPad connectivity! I have often considered using corduroy for this purpose...it looks exactly like ploughed fields! Your felt roads also look 👍
ReplyDeleteI think blogger sometimes plays up. Corduroy is certainly perfect for ploughed fields. When my wife visits I material/craft shop I tag along and will always be on the lookout for materials which can be repurposed for the tabletop.
