I finally found the time to break out the paints and work on some models. This was a refreshing change from the past couple of months where my time was focused on painting the house, which is thankfully almost done. For Christmas, I received some models and kits to expand my Mechs project from the kids. Mechs and space troops—what a treat!

Recently painted mechs and one test troop unit. |
The little troops are from the Imperialis range. I am converting them into troops with support weapons using my bits box, filled with surplus parts from various W40K kits, to make the support weapons. The support weapons are meant to look like they are mounted on hover platforms.

Useful for providing troop units for my mech game. |
|
Some support weapons kit bashed from a variety of spare bits from old W40K kits. |
Once I finish making all the space troops and their support weapons, I plan to play a few games using my Western Desert terrain. Its rugged, arid look is perfect for representing a futuristic mining world. As a bonus, the terrain is already set up with a hex grid, which will work well with the rules I plan to use. I will post more about the rules and progress in a future post once I get all the units fully painted.
Below are some pictures showing the type of game I want to play. Each side will have about 10-15 units, a combination of towering mechs to stride across the battlefield and troops dependent upon terrain for their survival.

The type of game I am planning with my mech forces. |

Mechs Advance! |

With these small models the hex-gridded tabletop will be useful with no fiddly measuring. |
Currently on the tabletop there is another French and Indian War game in progress. I'm thoroughly enjoying using these classic Spencer Smith figures again after so many years, and I am thinking about creating a mini-campaign for them to give me a reason to use them in a few more games.

FIW game underway. |

An attempted storming if a defensive position. |
That is it now until 2025. Thank you to all of you who took the time look and to comment in 2024.
Glad you were able to get a bit of "me" time to do some REAL painting, Peter! Nice Christmas gifts, too - congratulations there as well! I look forward to keeping up with your latest ventures in 2025.
ReplyDeleteIt is very relaxing to just finally be able to sit down and do some painting. While there is still stuff to do and unpack in the house it is nice to set aside some “me” time.
DeleteFollowing your space infantry posts with great interest, Peter! I have a boatload of epic40k troopers itching for action and new paint schemes.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear the house painting is almost done and you are getting settled. Looking forward to your games in 2025!
Yes, we are finally getting settled and looking forward to focusing on more wargaming in 2025.
DeleteA great idea with the 40k epic stuff - they fit right in. You’ve got all the ingredients there for some excellent gaming. I especially like the paint jobs on the mechs and the buildings. Have a brilliant new year.
ReplyDeleteThanks. I am looking forward to completing the mech and supporting troops early in the new year.
DeleteYour mechs are looking good Peter. Plus, the FIW game looks fab. The figures are a real charm.
ReplyDeleteThe FIW figures definitely have a nostalgic feel about them.
DeleteYour FIW set up looks great, nice to see those Spencer Smiths on the table, hope we see more in 2025!
ReplyDeleteThere will definitely be more Spencer Smiths on the the tabletop in 2025. Thanks.
DeleteGreat to see you getting in some model painting time, the results of which look great! Love the FIW game too:).
ReplyDeleteAt the moment I am very drawn to the FIW games and am already noting down ideas for a campaign.
DeletePeter, seeing you back up and running on all fronts is a pleasure. I like your new Mechs and the hex game looks good. I still have fond memories of our Montcalm & Wolfe campaign from years ago. If you want a campaign driver, we could fire it up again. You still may be sick of fighting over Fort William Henry.
ReplyDeleteIt is certainly a pleasure to be able to game and paint (models). I still remember the FIW campaign, so enjoyable, I lost track of how many times Fort William Henry was fought over.
DeleteFor what it’s worth - Spencer Smith minis are now produced in the USA. I reached out to Wee Wolf Miniatures regarding the Spencer Smith early c18th castings last month and was informed they are working on creating new moulds - “hopefully adding them to the catalogue in the first quarter of ‘25”. Fingers crossed for this - I still need a few more infantry, plus some cavalry and artillery.
ReplyDeleteWhat wargamer doesn’t need “more”?
Your mechs look nice. I could be tempted by the epic scale infantry, but I prefer metal infantry (Brigade Games, GZG & Vanguard). Still, maybe I should get a few “just in case” 😉 I presume these are the standard hard plastic figures, yes?
Cheers,
Geoff
Hi Geoff. That is good news about Wee Wolf Miniatures as there are a few figures I may need. Yes, the infantry are in hard plastic. Cheers, Peter
DeleteGreat looking figures and terrain Peter.
ReplyDeleteThanks. It’s nice to repurpose some of the desert terrain and only have to add a few more bits of terrain to get the look.
DeleteGreat battle reports! Thanks for sharing!!
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to follow your blog and activities in 2025.
Happy New Year!
Thank you. Have a great 2025.
