A busy weekend painting

Three bases of generic Medieval troops left the painting table this weekend. Most of the miniatures are old Minifigs I picked up secondhand a few months ago and recently popped into the paint-stripper to clean up. They are all block painted which is increasingly my style of painting. This way they get painted quickly  and on to the tabletop where they look fine. One of the reasons for painting up these additional bases is I am treating two bases as a unit. I prefer the look of a larger block of figures.

This weeks yeomen bases added to last week's painted yeomen.

  1. I like the way you can paint each base as a different retinue. Super job!

    1. I quite like mixing them up and it allows a lot of flexibility with orders of battle. Also when painting I really don't need to worry too much about the colours I use for a unit.

  3. Peter, I really like the scatter you’ve used on those bases. Any idea what it is?

    1. I use a mix which I add to when it gets low. The last lot I purchased of eBay was:
OO HO Scale Javis Scatter SAND JS30 45gms scenic terrain war games (JV062),
OO HO Scale Javis scenery Scatter MID GREEN JS15 45gms, and
OO HO Scale Woodland Scenics Earth Coarse Turf T60 by FNQHobbys.
      I hope this helps.

  4. Nice work there Peter on the Medievals- Minifigs always have a certain appeal and charm- I prefer 25mm Minifigs to modern day offerings. Cheers. KEV.

    1. Thanks. Minifigs have just the right amount of detail so painting is straight forward and enjoyable.

  8. They look great! Really, block painting (perhaps with a wash or stain) is perfectly adequate for wargames figures!

    1. Thank you. Now-a-days everything gets block painted, unless they are for skirmish games and individually based.
